moving company rents moving trucks for $20 plus $0.19 per mile. Suppose a customer’s total bill for renting a truck comes to $34.06. How many miles did the customer drive? Write an equation and explain how you used it to find your answer.​

34.06=20+0.19m

Explanation:

The 20 dollars is a one-time thing so we don't need a variable for that. The 0.19 per mile does because the cost will depend on how many miles you drove (I used the variable 'm' but you could use a different letter). Altogether the bill costs 34.06 so that will go on the opposite side of our equal side.

34.06=20+0.19m

First we need to isolate 0.19m to find the number of miles the customer drove, and we can do that by subtracting 20 on each side.

34.06-20=20-20+0.19m

14.06=0.19m

Now we divide 0.19 because 0.19 is multiplied to m and division is the opposite operation

m=74

This means that the customer drove 74 miles.
