Indeed, checks and balances are an integral and necessary part of democracy. Its importance lies in the fact that, from this system, the different branches of the government can control each other, preventing abuses of power and the generation of authoritarian governments. Thus, through this system the normal functioning of public institutions is guaranteed, with which democracy (understood as the government of the people, by the people and for the people) is fully guaranteed.

This is related to journalism since the normal functioning of democracy, and the prevention of the development of authoritarianism guarantee that journalism can work normally, expressing its opinions with total freedom despite possible ideological differences with the government of the day.
