Mr.Chan wants to sell some or all of his shares of a stock in a company. He purchased 90 shares for $.59 each last month, and the shares are now worth $3.80 each. Write an inequality which describes how much profit, P , Mr.Chan can make by selling his shares?

Answer:

Mr Chan spent

90\cdot 0.5 = 4590⋅0.5=45

dollars when he bought the shares. If he sells 45 shares at 3.80, he will gain

45\cdot 3.8 = 17145⋅3.8=171

dollars. So, the net profit would be

171-45 = 126171−45=126
