Answer:

5, 9

Explanation:

let

x= first number

y = second number

x- y= 4( equation 1)

xy=45( equation 2)

From equation 1

x= 4+y( equation 3)

put equation 3 into equation 2

( 4+y)y=45

4y+y^2=45

( y-5)(y+9)=0

y=5,-9

Then put y=5 into equation 3

x=9

Answer:

-9 and 5

Explanation:

Let's call the first number N1 and the second number N2.

So, let's call N1 the smaller number and N1=x

Let's call N2 the larger number and N2=x+4.

X(X+4)=45

x^2+4x=45

x^2+4x-45=0

(x+9)(x-5)=0

X=-9, X=5
