Answer: y= $0.20x + $35 or y= $0.20 * 40 + $35 (Depending on what you mean)

Explanation:

The equation for these types of problems is y = mx + b.

M would be $0.20, because that is the value that can repeat, based on x. For example, if this was 2 dollars per mile (m) for 3 miles, (x) than y, the total amount for mx would amount to 6 dollars.

Now, 35$ Is a one time fee (b), so you can add that separately to $0.20x.

If you plug everything in, you would get y= $0.20x + $35.

I am not very sure about what you mean by “ How far you could you travel if you drove 40 miles”, but if you mean how much would you pay to drive 40 miles, I can help there.

Now that we know x would be the amount of miles, we can plug that into the equation.

You would get y= $0.20 * 40 + $35.

Sorry, I’m not that good at explaining, but I hoped this helped!
