Sara's mother takes her to her grandparents' house for dinner. She drives 60 minutes at a constant speed of 35 miles per hour. She reaches the highw 30 minutes at a constant speed of 60 miles per hour. How long did it take Sara's mother and how far did she drive?

Answer:

add the two parts of the trip together.. the slow part + fast part = total

Explanation:

slow part = 35 miles

fast part = 30 mins at 60 mph = 30 miles ( 1/2 of 60 b/c 30 mins is 1/2 an hour)

so....

35 + 30 =65 miles, in 1.5 hours = 1 hour and 30 mins = 90 mins
