The length of a rectangle is 5.9 cm more than 3 times the width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 57.4cm, what are it's dimensions.

l = 23 cm and w = 5.7 cm

Explanation:

Perimeter = twice the length plus twice the width

let w = width

let l = length

l = 5.9 + 3w

57.4 = 2(5.9 + 3w) + 2w

57.4 = 11.8 + 6w + 2w

57.4 = 11.8 + 8w

45.6 = 8w

w = 5.7

Substitute 5.7 for 'w' to get 'l':

l = 5.9 + 3(5.7)

l = 23
