Let's think through all of the possibilities that can get us a seven. We can just start with 1 and then count up.

(6,1)

(2,5)

(5,2)

(3,4)

(4,3)

We see that there are six different possibilities that can gives us a seven. 6/36 is 1/6, so our probability is 1/6.
