The length of a rectangle is three less than four times the width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 54 feet. Find the width of the rectangle.

Explanation:

Let the width = w

Then the length = 4w - 3

perimeter = 2(length + width)

perimeter = 2(4w - 3 + w)

perimeter = 2(5w - 3)

perimeter = 10w - 6 = 54

10w - 6 = 54

10w = 60

w = 6

Answer: The width is 6 ft
