A store is having a sale on almonds and jelly beans. For 7lb of almonds and 9 lb of jelly beans, the total cost is $51. For 5 lb of almonds and 3 lb of jelly beans, the total cost is $27. Find the cost for each pound of almonds in each pound of jelly beans.

Let us assume the almons be x

And the jelly beans be y

Now the first equation would be

7x + 9y = $51

And, the second equation is

5x + 3y = $27

Now multiplied by 5 and 7 in equation 1 and 2

35x + 45y = $255

35x + 21y = $189

24y = 66

y = $2.75

Now put the y value in any one of the equation

7x + 9($2.75) = $51

7x + $24.75 = $51

7x = $51 - $24.75

7x = $26.25

x = $3.75

Hence, the cost for each pound of almonds in each pound of jelly beans is $3.75 and $2.75 respectively
