Photosynthesis is a unique process that occurs in the cells of green plants and other autotrophic organisms. It is the process whereby they synthesize their food in form of carbohydrates (sugars). The photosynthetic process takes place in two stages namely: light dependent reaction and light-independent reactions.

The light dependent reaction or simply light reaction is the stage where light energy from the sun is harnessed by a pigment called CHLOROPHYLL and used to produce ATP needed to build glucose molecules in the next stage. Hence, via this process, the LIGHT ENERGY from the sun is converted to CHEMICAL ENERGY in ATP.
