Explanation:

"I think of a number" : OK, I'm thinking of my x

"multiply it by 2" : Now I have two of them: 2x

"subtract 3": Here we go: -3

"multiply the result [ (2x-3)] by 4: multiply by 4: *4

Now put them all together: (2x - 3)*4
