∵ They are intersected by a line

∴ The angles of measures (3x + 5)° and 65° are alternate interior angles

→ That means they are equal in measures

∵ Alternate interior angles are equal in measures

(3x + 5)° = 65°

→ Subtract 5 from both sides

∵ 3x + 5 - 5 = 65 - 5

∴ 3x = 60

→ Divide both sides by 3

x = 20

The value of x is 20
