15 + 20x = 18 + 20x

Please help him determine the value of x, if any, that makes
the equation true. Explain how you know and what your
answer means in terms of solutions.

ANSWER:

1. you want to rearrange your terms what I mean by that is:

15+20x=18+20x

20x+15=18+20x

2. then you want to rearrange the terms again:

20x+15=18+20x

20x+15=20x+18

3.Subtract 15 from both sides of the equation:

20x+15=20x+18

20x+15-15=20x+18-15

4.Simplify:

1.subtract the numbers

20x=20x+3

5.Subtract the 20x from both sides of the equation:

20x=20x+3

20x-20x=20x+3-20x

6.Simplify

1.combine like terms

0=3

or x=3
