They certainly didn't want to be heroes. In fact, most of them didn't like admitting that they had done it. Anti Semitism didn't evaporate after WWII. It is alive and well even today.

She didn't particularly want to fight the Nazis. Her loyalty was to the Frank family.

The Franks didn't force her to do anything. They were just grateful she did it.
