Louis XVI was guillotined in the Place de la Révolution on January 21, 1793. His wife, Marie Antoinette, met the same fate nine months later, on October 16, 1793. In Revolutionary France, the Legislative Assembly votes to abolish the monarchy and establish the First Republic. King Louis and his queen, Mary-Antoinette, were imprisoned in August 1792, and in September the monarchy was abolished.

Answer:

The king and queen were cruelly put to death at the peak of the violent period, known as “The Terror”. The people of France were not pleased with the way they ran the country because in truth, King Louis was a very weak leader and Marie Antoinette was promiscuous.
