S Yesterday, two friends went bank to open savings accounts. Reid started by putting $100 in his account, and

he will deposit an additional $40 each week. Akira made no initial deposit, but she will add $50 more each week. In
a few weeks, the friends will have the same account balance. How many weeks will that take?

Answer:

The two friends will have same account balance in 10 weeks.

Explanation:

Given that:

Amount deposited by Reid = $100

Amount deposited each week = $40

Let,

x be the number of weeks.

R(x) = 40x + 100

Amount deposited by Akira each week = $50

A(x) = 50x

For the two friends to have same account balance,

A(x) = R(x)

50x=40x+100

50x-40x=100

10x=100

Dividing both sides by 10

(10x)/(10)=(100)/(10)\\x=10

Hence,

The two friends will have same account balance in 10 weeks.
