In 1898, J.J Thompson came up with his model of the atom. In this model, the atom was described as a sphere of positively charged matter in which negative charges were embedded as shown in the image attached.

This model is popularly designated as the plum-pudding model. Further experiments into the structure of the atom led to the jettisoning of this model.
