Need help on math You have a meal at a restaurant. The sale tax is 8% . You leave a tip for the waitress that is 20% of the pretax price . You spend $23.04 . What is the pretax price of the meal?

Answer: $18

Explanation:

Let x= Pretax price of the meal.

Given: Sales tax = 8%

Tip percent = 20%

As per given ,

Amount spent = ( Pretax price) + (Sales tax ) of (Pretax price) + (Tip percent)of (Pretax price)

= x+ 8% of x + 20% of x

= x +0.08+0.20x

= 1.28x

∵ Amount spent = $23.04

So,


1.28x=23.04\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=(23.04)/(1.28)\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=18

Hence, the pretax price of the meal= $18.
