The present ages of mary and jack are in the ratio of 1:2. three years from now, the ages will be in the ratio of 3:5. find the present ages of mary and jack

Answer:

mary = 6 jack = 12 y/o

Explanation:

m/j = 1/2 re-arrange to j = 2m

In three years

(m+3) / (j+3) = 3/5 sub in j = 2m

(m+3) / (2m+3) = 3/5

(m+3) * 5 = (2m+3) * 3

5m + 15 = 6m + 9

6 = m then j = 2m = 12 y/o
