7x − (x − 26) = 2x − ( + x)

1 Remove parentheses.

7x-x+26=2x−x

2 Cancel -x on both sides.

7x+26=2x

3 Subtract 7x from both sides.

26=2x−7x

4 Simplify 2x-7x to -5x.

26=−5x

5 Divide both sides by -5.

26/-5=x

6 Switch sides.

x=26/-5

7 Simplify.

x=-5.2
