The area of a rectangle is 44m2 , and the length of the rectangle is 3m

less than double the width. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.

Answer:

width=11/2

length=8

Explanation:

44=(2w-3) x w area for a rectangle (44) = the length (2w-3) times the width (w)

44=2w^2 - 3w distribute

2w^2-3w-44 = 0 subtract 44 from both sides

(w+4)(2w-11) factor

width=11/2

(11/2 x 2) - 3

length = 8
