8. A hiker walks 2.3 km east and then 4.1 km north. What is her displacement?

A. 6.4 km

firstly , draw the path 2.3 to east and 4.1 to the north. you’ll get a right - angle triangle . the hypotenuse is the displacement.

to find the distance , use Pythagoras theorem.

let the displacement = c

c ^ 2 = 2.3 ^ 2 + 4.1 ^ 2

c = 4.7 km

then , you need to find the angle.

tan theta = 4.1 / 2.3

theta = 61 degree
