Where do cable news channels get their money? How do their sources of revenue differ from network news?

Cable channels get money from two sources, primarily. First, they sell advertisements. When Subaru or Nike or IBM or anyone else runs an ad during a cable news show, they pay the news station. Second, they get money from cable companies for each home they are piped into (subscriber fees). The difference is that network television uses radio waves to carry the signal whereas cable television uses cables to carry radio frequency signals.
