Line 2: 4x - 2 = 8 - 6x

Line 3: - 2x - 2 = 8

The problem has a mistake in it. The mistake is found in line 3. The person who solved the problem subtracted 6 from both sides when they should have added 6.

x = 1

Explanation:

4x-2=8-6x

10x-2=8

10x=10

x= 1
