In order to answer this question we have to look at the equation 14 = z - 2 , and we see that z is the only variable in the equation so we are going to add 2 to -2 in order to get it off the side of the equal sign with the variable z and what we do to one side of the equal sign you do to the other so you are actually adding 2 to both -2 and 14.

14 = z - 2

+2 +2

16 = z

we got our answer pretty quickly so how do we know if 16 is equal to the variable z? well we are going to place 16 in the place of the variable z.

14 = z - 2 or 14 = (16) - 2

16 - 2 = 14

14 = 14
