What makes Danforth anxious to obtain confessions? At the same time, why does he refuse to postpone the executions?

1.He feels if he gets the confessions from people who are popular in the town it will seem that his other hangings are justified
2. He’s afraid if he postpones his executions it will make it seem that he is doubtful about the people he has already hanged.
