To solve this we can set the amount of 10% solution needed equal to x. This means that the 60% solution will be the remaining amount needed, so 50 L - x.

We can do 10%*x+60%*(50-x)=50*40%. Solving for x we get:

0.1*x+0.6*50-0.6*x=50*0.4

0.1*x+30-0.6*x=20

-0.5*x=-10

x=20
