Annie is buying new school supplies. She has a budget of $45, and she has already spent $21. She wants to spend the remaining money on notebooks that cost $4 each. What is the greatest number of notebooks, x, Annie can purchase while staying within her budget?

Answer:

Part A) 45-21 ≥ 4x

Part C) She could buy up to 8 notebooks

Explanation:

She already spent $21 so you would need to subtract that from the total budget. The sign would be greater than or equal to since that's the max amount.

45-21 ≥ 34

34≥4x

Divide both sides by 4 to cancel it out. You would get 8.5 but since you can't buy half a notebook it would be 8.
