x = 78 /5

Explanation:

5(x+4)=12-40-7x

Subtract the numbers from the left side which will equal -25-7x

Then... Distribute the -5 to x and 4 making the equation on the left

-5x -20

In all your equation should look like this

-5x -20 = -25 -7x

Then add 7x to the right side and add 20 to the left making the equation

-5x + 7x = -28 + 20

The add up the terms on each side...

2x = -8

Then divide the 2 to the left side...

Overall:

x= -4
