Suppose that the water level of a river is 34 feet and that it is receding at a rate of 0.5 foot per day. Write an equation for the water level, L, after d days. In how many days will the water level be 26 feet?

Answer:

L = 34 - 0.5d

21 feet

Explanation:

The initial water level ; 34

the amount is rises per day; 0.5

"L" is the water level,

"d" is the days passed.

In order to find the water level, one will have to multiply the amount the water rises each day, by the days passed. Then one will have to subtract that from the initial water level, hence the equation formed is the following;

L = 34 - 0.5d

Substitute in 26 for "d", to solve for the water level after 26 days.

L = 34 - 0.5(26)

L = 34 - 13

L = 21
