He treated all of the people unfairly and with no respect. The way he treated people was understandable because he hated christmas but not necassary. Later in the movie though he did end to love Christmas and treated everyone with kindness and its really nice to see his behavior change.
He was very selfish and wanted everything for himself, especially money, so he despised those around him. He did not treat them kindly and pushed them away out of distrust and distaste for willing to give their money to others.
