4 1/12 + (-5 1/3)=

-1 1/4

Eliminate the negative and change the operation.

=4 1/12 − 5 1/3

Rewrite your equation with the parts separated.

=4 + 1 1/2 − 5 − 1/3

Solve the whole numbers.

4−5= −1

Solve the fractions.

1 1/2 − 1/3=?

Find the LCD of 1/12 and 1/3 and rewrite to solve the equivalent fractions. (Least Common Denominator)

LCD = 12

1 1/2 − 4 1/2= −3 1/2

Reduce the fraction, 3/12.

−3 1/2 = −1/4

Combine the whole and fraction.

−1 − 1/4= −1 and 1/4

I hope this helped!!! :))
