You know that the sides of a square are increased by 2 inches: the expression should be written as (x+2)

The area is 25 square inches

The area of a square is s×s or s²

so it can be solved as:

(x+2)²=25

(√(x+2))^(2) =√(25)

x+2=5

x=3

The length of the original side is 3 inches

Hope it helps!
