x = -3

Explanation:

4x - 8 = -4 (11 + 2x) (distribute the -4 to the numbers in the parenthesis)

4x - 8 = -44 + -8x (add 8x on both sides)

12x - 8 = -44 (add 8 on both sides)

12x = -36 (divide both sides by 12)

x = -3
