Zane's parents keep a chart on the wall where they mark how much Zane grows each year. When Zane was 15, he grew 3/5 of an inch and when he was 16, he grew 1/2 of an inch. In total, how much did Zane grow in during those two years?

Answer:

1.1 Inches

Explanation:

The fractions have unlike denominators. First, find the Least Common Denominator and rewrite the fractions with the common denominator. To get the common denominator I multiplied 3/5 by 2/2 to get 6/10 and I multiplied 1/2 by 5/5 to get 5/10 now that they have a common denominator you can add and you get 11/10 = 1.1

Answer:

1 1/10 or 11/10

Explanation:

Zane grew 3/5 of an inch during the first year and 1/2 an inch during the second. First, you have to make sure the denominators are the same number. Then, add the numerators. Simplify if needed.
