Gender is socially constructed from birth. Men and women are expected to act the way those of their sex act, and assume specific roles. As a child, many girls are taught to cook, clean, and sew, as many boys are taught to fix and build things. This usually continues into adulthood, with the spouses only able to do certain work and therefore teaching their children the same thing. Sex and and gender are two different things; sex refers to you biologically, using things like genitals or XX or XY chromosomes to determine if someone is male or female. Sex comes at birth, and gender, which is a socially constructed thing, often comes along with it.
