In order to get their position, government representatives need to run on a platform that give them the majority of the vote.

1 vote above 50% of the votes is considered as a majority.

This means that Even if the representatives completely alienated the rest of 49,99% of the Americans, they can have a good chance to gain their position in the government.

Because of this, I believe that no matter who's got elected, there will always be some group of people who are not satisfied with their work. It's something that we have to accept if we want to live in a democratic country,
