So, we climb up this ladder and remove a tile from the drop ceiling. I've installed a toggle switch in this alarm line. When the switch is open, it relies on the door sensor to detect the door opening and set the alarm. If I flip the switch, it creates a closed loop in the circuit prior to the door switch. So when I flip this switch, I can open the door, but the open circuit isn't detected by the alarm.
Also, it is nearly impossible to get locked inside. International Building Code and International Fire Code require that there be a way out of any building in case of an emergency. You might have to look around for a few minutes to find the way out, but look for exit signs. Unless the building is on fire, you’ve got plenty of time to look for it. And if the building is on fire, there will be emergency personnel there very soon, and you will be able to get out easily when they arrive.
