Why did Germany and Ireland produce a great number of immigrants to the US during this time period?

The industrial revolution was a HUGE pull factor for Germany and Ireland immigrants. Along with that, political unrest and famine were pushing immigrants out.

Famine and political revolution in Europe led millions of Irish and German citizens to immigrate to America in the mid-nineteenth century. Most of them came because of civil unrest, severe unemployment or almost inconceivable hardships at home.
