Read the following quotation from the story.

"Down the block there was an old tenement that had been abandoned for some months. Some of the guys had held an impromptu checker tournament there the week before, and Greg had noticed that the door, once boarded over, had been slightly ajar."



Using context clues, what do you think the term “boarded over” means?

So a Tenement is like an apartment, and usually (not always) are run in less rich communities. So the fact that it had been abandoned, it could be In a poor spot. Now for the boarded over, I think that means that it was boarded up by wood, which most abanded places use wood to cover up broken glass or windows. He also refers to it being ajar, or slightly opened because of the guys that held the checker tournament.
