x = number of adult tickets
y= number of kid tickets
8x+ 4y = 168
x+y= 24
8x+ 4y = 168
(x+y= 24) -4
8x+ 4y = 168
-4x - 4y = -96
4x = 72
x = 18
they purchased 18 adult tickets
