As organisms evolved to become photosynthetic, they used the process of photosynthesis, which extracted the carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere along with water on the surface of the Earth to create sugar they needed for survival. Due to this process, carbon dioxide is decreased in the atmosphere with oxygen being released as the waste product of the process, which had led to the increase of oxygen in Earth's early atmosphere.
