What is the height, to the nearest tenth of a foot, of a tree that creates a 40-foot shadow when the sun is at an angle of elevation of 40°?

Answer: 33.6

Explanation:

tan(angle) = opposite/adjacent

tan(40) = x/40

40*tan(40) = x

x = 40*tan(40)

x = 25*0.8390996312

x = 33.56398525

So the tree is roughly 33.6 feet tall
