The length of a rectangle is 12 cm. What width will make the perimeter less than 49 cm?

Answer:

The width can be 11 cm long.

Explanation:

We would multiply 12 cm by 2, or just add 12 cm by 12 cm.

12+12=24

And we should decrease 49 to 46, since it says it want a perimeter less than 49. If we make 49 into 48, that would just make it a square

Then subtract the 24 from 46. If we made 49 into 48, that would just make it a square, 48-24=24 would not fit the criteria. Of course you could make 46 even smaller to get a smaller width, but I just stuck with 46.

46-24= 22

Then we divide it in half.

22/2=11 cm for width
