The Attack on Pearl Harbor was so successful due to the fact that it was almost a complete surprise that nobody was expecting, obviously in the end it was not a good idea for Japan to attack the US in the first place, but Japan thought that if they bombed Pearl Harbor, then the rest of the Pacific Islands would soon fall under Japanese order
