Answer:

The cost of 1 orange y = 1.1

Explanation:

Let cost of 1 apple = x

Cost of 1 orange = y

We will make equations from given statements to find the cost of 1 orange i.e y

Wilma bought 3 apples and 6 oranges for $9: Mathematical expression will be:
3x+6y=9

Fernando bought 6 apples and 2 oranges for $7. Mathematical expression will be:
6x+2y=7

Let:

3x+6y=9--eq(1)\\6x+2y=7--eq(2)

Multiply eq(1) by 2 and subtract both equations.

6x+12y=18\\6x+2y=7\\- \ \ \ - \ \ \ \ -\\-----\\10y=11\\y=11/10\\y=1.1

So, We get value of y=1.1

Now, put value of y in eq(1) to find value of x

3x+6y=9\\3x+6(1.1)=9\\3x=9-6.6\\3x=2.4\\x=2.4/3\\x=0.8

So, the cost of 1 orange y = 1.1
