A car dealership salesman earns a base salary of $40,000 a year plus a commission of $2,000 for every car he sells. Write the equation that represents the income of the salesman each year.

Y = $40,000X + $2,000C

Y= Total Salary

X = Years

C = Cars

Example Problem to test to equation

After five years the salesman sold fifty cars. What is is total income?

Y= 40,000 * 5 + 2,000 * 50

Y = 200,000 + 100,000

Y = $300,000 in five years
