⠀⠀⠀⠀

Using Pythagoras theorem ;

⠀⠀⠀⠀

\sf{\red{\boxed{\bold{( hypotenuse )^2 = ( base )^2 + ( height )^2 }}}}

⠀⠀⠀⠀

First , lets understand the concept ;

⠀⠀⠀⠀

What is Pythagoras theorem ??

⠀⠀⠀⠀

In Pythagoras theorem the square of hypotenuse is equal to the square of base in the square of corresponding height when one angle is 90° .

⠀⠀⠀⠀

What is hypotenuse ?

⠀⠀⠀⠀

The side in the front of right angle is known as hypotenuse .

⠀⠀⠀⠀

In the given Δ ;

⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hypotenuse = AC = 20 cm

⠀⠀

Acc. to the formulae ;

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➠ 20² = 12² + w²

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➠ w² = 20 ² - 12 ²

➠ w² = 400 - 144

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➠ w² = 256

➠ d = √256

⠀⠀⠀⠀

➠d = 16cm

⠀⠀⠀⠀

Answer:

16, see below :)

Explanation:

Hello!

We can use the pythagorean theorem because one of the angles is 90 degrees. According to the theorem, a^2 + b^2 = c^2

a is 12, b is unknown, and c is 20

Now we use the theorem

12^2 + b^2 = 20^2

144 + b^2 = 400

b^2 = 256

b = sqrt(256)

b = 16
