ATP stands for Adenosine Triphosphate. It is the compound by which energy is stored and transferred in a cell.

It is made up of a nitrogenous base, the sugar and three phosphate groups.

  • The compound is produce as a product of photosynthesis and use to store energy.

Energy is produced from this compound in the following steps,

  • from the three phosphorous groups attached to the tail, one is split of.
  • ATP then becomes ADP, Adenosine Di- phosphate
  • it is the energy holding the phosphate group that is released and is used by the body.
